Will a Lack of Diversity Cripple the Children’s Book Industry?

Diversity is a huge issue in the publishing industry as a whole. However, the lack of diversity in the children’s book and young adult sector is glaring. During a Publishers Weekly panel on diversity held at Penguin Random House’s midtown offices in New York, Jason Low provided research that showed diversity has been ignored for 18 years since it was raised as a major issue. As the racial, ethnic, religious, and gender landscape of the American population changes, and grows it is important for the children’s book publishing industry to pick up the pace. We need diverse books.
