NYMW Hosts Anti-Fracking Event

On October 17th, we hosted a panel of experts to discuss legal, health, legislative, environmental and energy issues around the highly controversial technology of hydro-fracking.

Josh Fox, the award winning Director of Gasland, was one of our speakers. Gasland is a documentary film that focuses on communities affected by natural gas drilling. Gasland was awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Direction for Nonfiction Programming. It was nominated for an Oscar award in 2010 and premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival where it won the Special Jury Prize.

Hydro-Fracking for gas could begin in New York State in 2012 and its impact is not just on the water, land and air of upstate New York.

Seeking to protect the Delaware River Basin and the health of the millions of people who live, work and play in the Basin, Damascus Citizens for Sustainability filed a lawsuit against the Delaware River Basin Commission and federal government for failure to perform a full environmental review emphasizing the critical need for a human health impact assessment before any gas development is allowed.
